Production Begins in London for Season 2 of FX's Alien Prequel Series

FX's Alien: Earth has begun production on its second season at London's Pinewood Studios, with three new cast members joining the ensemble. Tracey Ullman, Sam Spruell, and Jerome Flynn are the latest additions to the sci-fi horror series from showrunner Noah Hawley, per Variety.

The casting reunites Spruell with Hawley after their work on Fargo, where Spruell appeared in the acclaimed fifth season. Jerome Flynn, known for playing Bronn in Game of Thrones, joins a Season 2 roster that already includes Peter Dinklage — marking a reunion for the former on-screen comrades. Ullman, the Emmy-winning comedian and actress behind Tracey Ullman's Show, represents a wildcard addition that has sparked curiosity about her role.

Created by Noah Hawley — the Peabody and Emmy Award-winning mind behind Fargo and Legion — Alien: Earth is the first television series in the legendary sci-fi horror franchise. Set in 2120, two years before Ridley Scott's 1979 original Alien, the show presents a world where five megacorporations govern Earth. The story follows Wendy (Sydney Chandler), the first successful human-synthetic hybrid, who leads a group of six prototype hybrids through a crisis when the deep-space vessel USCSS Maginot crash-lands, releasing a Xenomorph threat.

The series explores ambitious themes around humanity's pursuit of immortality through cyborgs, synthetics, and hybrids — synthetic bodies containing transferred human consciousness. Each of the six hybrids is named after a character from Peter Pan, with Wendy as their leader, adding a layer of literary metaphor to the sci-fi horror. This departs from the franchise's usual deep-space setting, bringing the terror to Earth and exploring how corporate power structures respond to an extraterrestrial threat on home soil. Hawley has described the shift as necessary for long-form storytelling, noting that a two-hour survival story becomes richer when spread across eight episodes with characters audiences invest in over time.

Season 1 premiered in August 2025 to strong critical acclaim, earning a 94% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 199 reviews and a Metacritic score of 85 indicating universal acclaim. The RT critics consensus praised it as "stylistically bold and scary as hell," noting that Hawley "transplants the Xenomorph mythos into the television medium with its cinematic grandeur intact while staking out a unique identity of its own." The 8-episode season was shot in Thailand and boasts executive producer Ridley Scott alongside Hawley's distinctive narrative style. FX renewed the series in November 2025, just three months after its premiere — a strong vote of confidence from the network.

Season 2's move to Pinewood Studios carries symbolic weight — the same facility housed the original 1979 Alien, Alien 3, and Prometheus, bringing the franchise's television arm full circle to its cinematic birthplace. The most recent franchise installment, Alien: Romulus, arrived in 2024 to strong box office and critical reception, proving audience appetite for the Xenomorph universe remains robust across both film and television formats.

Returning Season 1 stars include Sydney Chandler as Wendy, Alex Lawther as her brother Joe, Essie Davis as Dame Sylvia, Samuel Blenkin as CEO Boy Kavalier, Babou Ceesay as Morrow, Adarsh Gourav as Slightly, and Timothy Olyphant as Kirsh. The cast also includes Erana James, Lily Newmark, Jonathan Ajayi, and David Rysdahl. Jeff Russo, who scored Fargo and Legion, returns to compose Season 2's music.

Season 1 of Alien: Earth is streaming on FX and Hulu, and on Disney+ internationally. A premiere date for Season 2 has not yet been announced, but with production now underway at Pinewood, a late 2026 or early 2027 release appears likely. The new season will continue the story of Wendy and the hybrids as the fallout from the Maginot crash reshapes the power dynamics between Earth's five ruling corporations.
