Netflix is bringing Dan Brown's iconic symbologist Robert Langdon to the small screen — and they've found their new professor. The Gilded Age star Morgan Spector is in negotiations to headline the streaming series adaptation of Brown's latest novel, The Secret of Secrets, with Rebecca Hall in talks for the female lead. The news, first reported by Deadline, marks the first time the character has been re-cast since Tom Hanks originated the role in the 2006 blockbuster The Da Vinci Code.

Who's Behind It

Dan Brown himself is co-creating the series alongside Carlton Cuse, the showrunner best known for shepherding Lost through its most acclaimed seasons. Cuse brings high-concept, mystery-driven storytelling that's a natural fit for Brown's puzzle-box narratives. Emma Forman of Cuse's Genre-Arts banner also executive produces. Having the original author shaping the adaptation directly is an advantage most book-to-screen projects don't get.

The Secret of Secrets follows Robert Langdon as he races against ancient forces and time to rescue his girlfriend, missing scientist Katherine Solomon (Hall), and recover her groundbreaking manuscript — discoveries that could change humanity's understanding of the mind itself. The book, published by Doubleday in September 2025, is the sixth in Brown's Robert Langdon series following Angels & Demons, The Da Vinci Code, The Lost Symbol, Inferno, and Origin.

Filming is scheduled to begin this fall in Prague, where the novel is set. No premiere date has been announced yet — production kicking off in late 2026 suggests a likely late 2027 or early 2028 window.

Morgan Spector has become one of television's most compelling dramatic actors through his work as George Russell on HBO's The Gilded Age. Taking on a franchise role previously owned by Tom Hanks is a major step, but Spector brings a gravitas and coiled intensity that should serve the professor-turned-action-hero well.

Rebecca Hall, in talks for Katherine Solomon, brings serious dramatic weight. Known for The Town, Christine, and Ryan Murphy's The Beauty, Hall also happens to be Spector's real-life partner — the two have appeared together on Broadway in Machinal and in several films. Their off-screen chemistry should translate well on camera.
