New on Streaming: The Long Walk, Reminders of Him — July 10

Friday is here, and streaming services have loaded up a solid mix of new releases to kick off your weekend. Stephen King horror, Colleen Hoover romance, a maritime disaster documentary, and a major anime drop — there's genuinely something for every mood today.

Headliner: The Long Walk on HBO Max

The biggest release of the day is The Long Walk, the long-awaited adaptation of Stephen King's first-written novel (published under his Richard Bachman pseudonym). Directed by Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), the film arrives on HBO Max with serious credentials: an 88% Rotten Tomatoes score from 293 critics and an 85% audience rating.

The premise is brutal and simple — in a dystopian version of America, fifty teenage boys enter an annual walking contest where stopping means death. The last one standing wins. Cooper Hoffman leads a standout cast alongside David Jonsson (Alien: Earth), Mark Hamill, and Judy Greer. At 108 minutes, it's a tense, emotionally gripping thriller that critics have called one of the best Stephen King adaptations in years. If you're in the mood for something that'll keep you on edge all evening, this is the one.

Reminders of Him Lands on Peacock

On the opposite end of the emotional spectrum, Reminders of Him begins streaming on Peacock today. Adapted from Colleen Hoover's 2022 bestselling novel, the film stars Maika Monroe (Longlegs) as Kenna Rowan, a former convict trying to rebuild her life and reconnect with the daughter she left behind. Tyriq Withers co-stars as Ledger Ward, with support from Lauren Graham and Bradley Whitford.

Directed by Vanessa Caswill (Love at First Sight), the drama generated $89 million at the global box office earlier this year. It's a five-hanky weeper in the best tradition of Hoover adaptations — romantic, gut-wrenching, and ultimately hopeful.

Netflix's Friday Lineup

Shipwrecked: Nightmare at Sea — This immersive documentary traces the 2012 shipwreck of a luxury cruise liner through never-before-seen footage and firsthand survivor accounts. At 87 minutes, it's a tightly constructed look at one of modern maritime history's most harrowing disasters.

Zola — Janicza Bravo's wildly entertaining A24 dark comedy arrives on Netflix today. Based on A'Ziah "Zola" King's legendary 2015 Twitter thread, the film follows a Detroit waitress (Taylour Paige) who gets swept into a chaotic Florida road trip with a stripper she just met (Riley Keough), her hapless boyfriend, and a menacing pimp (Colman Domingo). It's sharp, unpredictable, and one of the most uniquely American movies of the decade. Zola holds an 87% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Also dropping on Netflix today: Miguel Ángel Blanco: The 48 Hours that Changed Spain, a documentary about the 1997 kidnapping that galvanized the country; Ikka; and The Paradise Murders.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 — Hulu drops all episodes of one of the most acclaimed anime series currently running, available in both subbed and dubbed formats. For anime fans who don't have Crunchyroll, this is a major get.

Faces of Death — Daniel Goldhaber's meta-horror remake lands on Shudder with a 68% RT score. Barbie Ferreira stars as a content moderator who discovers disturbing videos that appear to recreate death scenes from the infamous 1978 original. A fiercely transgressive take on digital age morbidity. Faces of Death is a horror pick for those who like their scares with a side of social commentary.

Redux Redux — A sci-fi revenge thriller that's been building festival buzz since last year, now streaming on Hulu.
