New Streaming Releases: June 19, 2026

Friday brings a nicely varied streaming slate — a darkly comedic A24 thriller makes its streaming debut, one of 2025's biggest family films lands on a new platform, an HBO documentary digs into football's violent underbelly, and Disney+ serves up sports and J-pop season finales.

Glen Powell's A24 thriller arrives on HBO Max

The biggest streaming debut of the day is How to Make a Killing, the A24 black comedy thriller that hit theaters back in February. Glen Powell stars as a disillusioned suit salesman who discovers he's still in line for a $28 billion family fortune — and decides to murder his way through the remaining heirs to claim it.

Margaret Qualley, Jessica Henwick, Bill Camp, and Ed Harris round out the cast in what director John Patton Ford describes as a loose riff on the 1949 British classic Kind Hearts and Coronets. Critics were split — some praised Powell's charm-carries-the-film energy, others wished the satire bit harder. Either way, it's a breezy, stylish watch with a killer soundtrack by Emile Mosseri.

Also arriving on the platform today: Ultras: Passion and Death, an HBO Original docuseries that traces the rise of Spain's violent football fan groups from the 1980s through 2014. Through three landmark crimes, the series examines how stadium fanaticism reshaped security across European football. If you liked Netflix's The Figo Affair or HBO's own sports documentary catalog, this one's worth a look.

SpongeBob swims onto Prime Video

After its $169 million theatrical run last December, The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants is now streaming. Mark Hamill voices the Flying Dutchman, Ice Spice cameos, and the animation — the franchise's first fully 3D-CG theatrical outing — is genuinely gorgeous.

The plot: SpongeBob sets out to prove his bravery by following a ghost pirate into the deepest depths of the sea. It's the kind of movie that works for kids who've never seen an episode and adults who grew up on the show. At 89 minutes, it doesn't overstay its welcome either.

Disney+: Baseball and boy bands

Over on Disney+, tonight's Banana Ball: Bananas vs. Clowns (7pm ET on ESPN2) brings the Savannah Bananas' wildly entertaining brand of baseball to the streaming screen. If you haven't seen Banana Ball before — picture Harlem Globetrotters meets baseball, with choreographed dances, trick plays, and a rulebook that treats "fun" as a core stat.

Also wrapping up today: Travis Japan Summer Vacation!! in the USA, the Hulu Original travel-reality series following the J-pop group as they explore American cities, food, and culture. The season finale drops today, and the whole series is a breezy binge if you're into travel content with a musical twist.

What's worth your time?

For a Friday night, How to Make a Killing is the obvious headliner — sharp cast, tight 105-minute runtime, and the kind of darkly funny premise A24 does better than anyone. Families will get mileage out of SpongeBob, and sports-doc fans should absolutely give Ultras a shot.
