RDJ Promises Avengers: Doomsday Won't Disappoint

Robert Downey Jr. is back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — and he's making a bold promise to fans still riding the high of Infinity War and Endgame.

Speaking about Avengers: Doomsday, the upcoming tentpole that brings Downey back as the villainous Doctor Doom, the actor told CBR the film "landed in a place that I think will more than suffice" for audiences worried the franchise peaked with its last two Avengers outings.

"It's not even about how I executed it," Downey added. "It's about the way it's been structured, and the other characters. There's something going on in 'Doomsday' and forward that is literally the only antidote to: How do you not have these films be let down after an 'Infinity War' and an 'Endgame?'"

Co-directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Doomsday doesn't arrive until 2027 — but that just means you've got the perfect excuse to revisit the MCU's best tonight.

The Infinity Saga Essentials (Disney+)

If you're going to rewatch just four films, make it these. They're the spine of everything Doomsday is building on, and they hold up remarkably well.

The Avengers (2012) — Where it all came together. The Battle of New York still delivers, and watching the original six assemble for the first time is pure comic-book magic.

Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) — Often underrated. This one planted seeds that took years to pay off, and the party scene alone is worth the rewatch.

Avengers: Infinity War (2018) — The gut punch. Thanos wins, the snap happens, and the theater goes silent. Still one of the boldest blockbuster endings ever.

Avengers: Endgame (2019) — The victory lap. Three hours that somehow fly by, capped by Cap wielding Mjolnir and Tony's "I am Iron Man." If you only watch one tonight, make it this one.

If revisiting the Infinity Saga feels like homework, Marvel's recent output offers fresh starting points.

Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) — The foul-mouthed, fourth-wall-breaking smash that proved the MCU still knows how to surprise. Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds have absurd chemistry, and the cameos are genuinely delightful. Also on Disney+.

It's a lighter, weirder corner of the Marvel universe — and exactly the kind of unpredictable energy Doomsday seems to be chasing.

Tonight's Bottom Line

Robert Downey Jr. rarely hypes anything he doesn't believe in. If he's this confident about Doomsday, the wait might actually be worth it. In the meantime, there are roughly 50 hours of Avengers films waiting on Disney+, and not a single minute feels wasted.
