What Is Power: Legacy?
Announced on June 4, 2026, Power: Legacy picks up the story of Tommy Egan and Tariq St. Patrick — the son of Tommy's late best friend James "Ghost" St. Patrick. Tommy most recently headlined Power Book IV: Force, while Tariq led five seasons of Ghost.
Legacy reunites both characters in a single series for the first time. Starz ordered eight episodes for season one, with Joseph Sikora and Michael Rainey Jr. returning as leads alongside franchise creator Courtney A. Kemp as executive producer.
The Power Universe: Watch Order
The Power franchise has four main series, and they're best watched in release order. Here's where to find each one:
1. Power (2014–2020) — The Original
The series that started it all. Power follows James "Ghost" St. Patrick, a New York nightclub owner living a double life running one of the city's biggest drug empires. Over six seasons, the show builds toward the betrayal that sets up every spinoff. Start here — the entire franchise rests on this foundation.
Where to stream: Starz, available on Netflix in select regions.
2. Power Book II: Ghost (2020–2024)
Picking up after the original series finale, Power Book II: Ghost follows Tariq St. Patrick navigating life at a private school while getting pulled back into the drug game. Five seasons make it the longest-running spinoff and the one most directly connected to Legacy.
Where to stream: Starz.
3. Power Book III: Raising Kanan (2021–2025)
A prequel set in the 1990s, Power Book III: Raising Kanan tells the origin story of Ghost's mentor, Kanan Stark. More period drama than crime thriller, but it adds crucial backstory to the original series.
Where to stream: Starz.
4. Power Book IV: Force (2022–2025)
Force follows Tommy Egan after he relocates to Chicago in the wake of the original series' events. It's the grittier entry in the franchise, and it sets up Tommy's position heading into Legacy. Required viewing if you want to understand where Tommy's head is at when he reunites with Tariq.
Where to stream: Starz.
What We Know About Power: Legacy So Far
Not much beyond the core premise has been revealed. Starz confirmed the eight-episode order and the two leads. No premiere date has been announced, though production is expected later in 2026. A 2027 premiere seems likely.
With Tommy and Tariq finally sharing the screen as co-leads, Legacy has the potential to tie together threads that have been dangling across four series for over a decade.
Where to Start If You're Short on Time
If you can't commit to four full series, here's the shortcut:
- Minimum: Watch the original Power (six seasons). It's the essential foundation.
- Better: Add Ghost to understand Tariq's arc.
- Best: Watch all four in release order. The franchise is designed to build on itself.
All four series stream on Starz, which also offers a free trial for new subscribers.
