His feature debut SA-KWA in 2005, an upbeat film of a woman’s conflict, parting, and choice for relationship and marriage, was invited to numerous international film festivals, winning the 30th Toronto International Film Festival FIPRESCI Award and the 53rd San Sebastian International Film Festival Mont Blanc Award for New Screenwriters, etc. KANG directed IF YOU WERE ME 5: TWO TEETH in 2011 when he was offered to create a film regarding the rights of North Korean defectors by the National Human Rights Commission of Korea. After the film, he was offered again to direct a film on human rights of criminal offenders which resulted in JUVENILE OFFENDER.
