Dan Abramovici immigrated to Canada as a teenager, a background that has fueled his interest in stories exploring identity and belonging. A graduate of the Canadian Film Centre’s prestigious Actor Conservatory, Abramovici made his mark with his debut feature Ben’s At Home, which he co-wrote and starred in. Following a theatrical release in Canada, it reached wider audiences on Netflix in 2017. His next feature script, You Have Feet In Your Shoes, earned recognition at Cinequest, where it won a Top 10 award and led to mentorship opportunities with industry legends including Lawrence Kasdan and Dennis Lehane. As an actor, Dan has appeared in series such as Star Trek: Discovery, Wayne, What We Do In The Shadows, JANE, and Tales From The Void. His film work includes Tehranto, The Marsh King’s Daughter, Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla, and the upcoming The Fallers, opposite Georgina Campbell. In 2019, Dan turned to directing with liminal, which won Best Short at both the Canadian Film Fest and Snowdance International, earned an Honorable Mention at the Oscar-qualifying Dances With Films, and screened widely at festivals including HollyShorts, Dublin, Newport Beach, BendFilm, and Raindance. His follow-up short, Play It Again, premiered at the Austin Film Festival, where it won the Jury Award for Best Short, making it Academy Award–qualifying in 2023. In 2024, his proof-of-concept short Spaceman premiered as an Opening Night Selection at HollyShorts. The film stars Trevor Copp, with voice performances by Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons (Whiplash, Juno, Spider-Man) and Mena Massoud (Aladdin). Most recently, his horror short Heirlooms premiered at Fantasia, winning the Audience Choice Award before going on to claim the Jury Award for Horror at HollyShorts. It then screened at Sitges, FilmQuest, and Telluride. LEOPARD, his latest short, just had its world premiere at the Austin International Film Festival. Dan currently has three feature films in development, including Searching for Marceau, an Academy Nicholl Fellowship and Shore Scripts finalist that he aims to bring to the screen in 2026.
