Edith Nesbit (15 August 1858 — 4 May 1924) was an English writer and poet, who published books for children and others as E. Nesbit. She wrote or collaborated on more than sixty such books. Nesbit was also a political activist and co-founder of the Fabian Society, a socialist organisation later affiliated to the Labour Party. Among her best-known work include The Story of the Treasure Seekers (1899), Five Children and It (1902), The Phoenix and the Cabinet (1904), and The Railway Children (1906).
