Rafaela Camelo is a filmmaker and screenwriter from Brazil. Her debut feature, The Nature of Invisible Things, premiered at the 2025 Berlinale and received more than 20 awards, including the Critics’ Prize at the 49th São Paulo International Film Festival, three Kikitos at the 53rd Gramado Film Festival, Best First Feature at Frameline49 (USA), and Best Film at the 33rd MixBrasil. She won the Cabíria Award for Best Feature Screenplay (2019) and is a member of the Rede Paradiso. Her short film The Beads (Berlinale 2023), co-directed with Emanuel Lavor, won at Filmfest Dresden and Panorama Coisa de Cinema. Desires of the flesh (Sundance 2019) won at Biarritz and New Directors/New Films. In 2023, she was named by Variety as one of the emerging talents of Brazilian cinema. She is developing her next project, The Older Sister, with the support of the Hubert Bals Fund.
