Soviet and Russian documentary filmmaker. In 1963 he graduated from the Faculty of Philology of Kharkiv State University, in 1975 — the workshop of Mikhail Romm and Leonid Christie at the directing Faculty of VGIK. One of the classics of the Leningrad Documentary Film School (Lendoc). Author and director of more than 50 documentaries, who has educated many students and followers. Founder of the Directing Department of the St. Petersburg University of Cinema and Television.
