Lefteris fought during the Greek Resistance against the Nazis, he was a guirilla fighter with the Democratic Army of Greece during the Civil War, while he was an active member of the Greek Communist Party. He server as a political prisoner for almomst two decades and became an important author for the period of the Greek Civil War (1946-1949).
