Born in Leninakan, he trained at the Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Fine Arts and became a leading performer at the Sundukyan State Academic Theatre, where his expressive face and instinctive comedic timing made him a standout talent. Mkrtchyan gained widespread recognition through memorable roles in films such as Mimino, Aybolit‑66, Kidnapping, Caucasian Style, and The Tango of Our Childhood.
