Ahmed hopes to marry Dawlat, the sister of his friend, but because of the social and financial gulf between them, her father refuses to approve the match. Ahmed sends him a letter formally asking for Dawlat's hand in marriage, but her cousin Ibrahim tears away part of the letter, reversing the meaning of what remains.
