On June 26, 1941, the German army invaded Russia. Maria João photographs Lisbon full of refugees arriving in Portugal. When his father-in-law Nicolau suffers an accident, he asks Maria João to help him manage the company. Major Beevor, an English spy, meets with the National Football Coach Cândido de Oliveira to organize the Resistance activity in Portugal. At the same time that Rose is enticed by the British, Maria João is going to Porto because of an assault on the Mascarenhas branch.
