At the foot of a deep, dark forest lies the traditional Mosedal boarding school. Prefect Freya does what she can to make everyone feel good when they're at school. But when a new student arrives over the Christmas holidays, eerie darkness creeps into the old estate. Freya has a strange sense of the new girl, Azta, but is it just jealousy that starts to grow in Freya?

As Azta's knowledge of the other students grows, so does Freya's sense that Azta is doing things she should not. Azta superiorly rejects Freya's accusations and instead turns the accusations against Freya herself, because what do the others really think about Freya going and writing things down about them? While Freya is busy, Azta brings out the darkness in Victor.

Freya wakes up devoid of memories of the events of the last days. Azta pictures Freya in that they are friends, and the new teacher, Azalie, frees Freya from her prefect role so she can take care of herself. But since Azta's influence on Malte and Victor shows her deadly extent, it is not Freya herself she has to watch out for. Meanwhile, Azta is in her forest temple, ready to sacrifice someone's soul.

Tor is worried about Mia and seeks out Freya to find out more about Azta. Freya finally begins to remember, but is not ready to share the notebook's witch accusations about Azta with Tor. While Tor tries to keep Azta back at school, Freya throws herself into a risky plan - a plan she does not get through wholeheartedly. In return, she finds out something about Azta that scares Freya out of her wits.
