Embarrassed when Barry turns up to footy practice drunk, Kurt sacks his dad as coach and takes over himself. Not everyone is pleased—Ryan quits the team. However it seems that there may be more behind Ryan's departure — Kurt and Nikki are now an item and Ryan refuses to believe that he's lost Nikki just yet.

Kurt's return to school brings back memories of his accident, and he is concerned that nobody knew how to cope. He convinces Di to run a voluntary basic first aid course, but Kurt has trouble convincing the other boys to participate. It is not until he reveals his secret weapon that the boys finally come around.
