Floortje Dessing travels with award-winning photographer Jasper Doest from the Netherlands to Nepal. During this long and adventurous journey over land, they search for stories about the complex relationship between humans and animals. Jasper takes impressive pictures of this adventure, while Floortje talks to the people. The first destination of the trip is Romania. Here Floortje and Jasper meet the passionate Cristina, who with her foundation is committed to taking care of bears that have been rescued from appalling conditions or can no longer live in the wild.

Just before they cross that border, they visit Hasan. He gives disabled animals a new chance. Once they have arrived in Iraqi Kurdistan, Floortje and Jasper see how dogs are used to clear land mines. In a refugee camp they meet the Syrian Ayas, who cares about the animals that live there.

In the old zoo of Mosul, Floortje hears the story about bear Lula and lion Simba, who were rescued from the war-torn city in 2017. In the south of Iraq, Floortje and Jasper visit the special swamp area and its inhabitants.
