Ben van Rooyen is asked to examine a valuable Kris (Indonesian dagger) that is up for auction. He becomes convinced it a holy family heirloom and want to buy it for the institute that employs him. However, an antique dealer named Santos is also very interested in the Kris. The two of them get involved in a bidding duel during the auction, in which Ben ends up bidding more money than the institute had alloted him.
