Part One

The Napoleonic Wars are over and Sir Walter Elliot, a vain baronet, facing financial ruin due to extravagant spending, is persuaded by his friend Mr. Shepherd and Anne’s mentor Lady Russell to lease Kellynch Hall to Admiral Croft.
