The Ingalls settle on the banks of Plum Creek in Walnut Grove. To acquire the deed to his farm, Charles takes several jobs.

Although there are a couple problems that must be overcome, things turn out for the best in the end.

Caroline becomes pregnant. Shortly after the baby is born, he becomes ill.
