Few villagers backstabbed Tilka by informing his whereabouts to the Britishers. Britishers caught Tilka and dragged him from Sultanganj to Bhagalpur and hanged him to death.

They stood against it as they suspected that Britishers used animal fat in the cartridge which was offensive for the Indian sepoys. He influenced his colleagues to fight against the Britishers but he was soon caught and hanged to death.
