Jurgen Klopp's Reds were looking to record their third consecutive victory in all competitions against their bitter rivals, and the omens looked good with the Toffees' last triumph coming way back in October 2010. Villa had a similarly poor recent record against Chelsea, having lost their previous five meetings, while the Blades hadn't beaten the Magpies since November 2006. Arsenal are unbeaten at home to Tottenham in the Premier League since 2010 and came from behind to deservedly win 4-2 in the corresponding fixture last season. Both clubs broke their transfer records over the summer in an attempt to bridge the gap at the top of the table.
