When Hilda suddenly uncovers the real and terrible meaning of their discovery, a new light is thrown on them.

Set in 15th century France, the story deals with a young man who flees from the Royal Guard after trying to avenge the death of a friends. He takes refuge in the home of the Sire de Maletroit, who mistaking him for another guard who is in love with his daughter, orders an immediate marriage.
